Alex's is a small but
packed Kosher store containing a wide range of vegan and vegetarian
foods. Freezer and fridge foods stocked by Alex's include Tofutti
Cuties and various other vegan/non dairy icecreams, Tofutti cheese
slices, non-dairy whipped cream substitutes and a range of burgers and
meat substitutes, many of which are not available in larger
supermarkets.
Shelf foods include a range of vegan jellies, biscuits and chocolates
(including Leiber's vegan white chocolate chips) as well as instant mashed potatoes, gravies and sauces, flavourings
and very handy packets of genuinely non-dairy creamer for hot drinks.
If you can't find what you're looking for, it's always good to ask the
very helpful Alex, who will direct you to the product if he has it and
is even open to suggestions of products to stock.
Being a Jewish business, Alex's is closed on Saturday but is open on

This small Indian grocery store is
an Aladdin’s cave of unique vegetarian groceries from mainly India,
but also Fiji, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The shop is completely
vegetarian including the helpful owner, Dalip! They stock bulk
foods, spices, pulses, an array of flours, rices, rennet-free cheese
(Paneer), yogurt, pickles etc., as well as tinned, packaged and frozen
foods, including vegetarian jelly crystals from Pakistan, and a couple
of types of TVP. There are also 15 different varieties of ready to go
or ‘heat and eat’ curries. Also if you are peckish while
visiting you can have a bhujia, samosa or for something sweet gulab
jumun -
milk dumpling covered in sugar syrup. For a ready made vegan
sweet try a ladoo or jalebi both made from flour. There is ample
parking at the rear and they are open 7 days from 10am-8pm. |
